When launching your instance, you often think about data protection solutions to store and secure your data. Until now, you were only able to snapshot one volume at a time on your Scaleway servers. We worked on this and today we are proud to release our new backup feature. It is a simple solution to save all your server data in one click. A backup is a copy of all volumes of a server stored in our secure data centers. They are perfect if you want to recover a server from a previous state.

Traditionally, performing backups for non-cloud native solutions can be costly and ineffective. Conventional backup softwares and methods are very centralized by nature, which often means high software license cost, dedicated hardware resources and single point of failure. On the contrary, backups at Scaleway are easy to perform and cost-effective: €0.02 per GB per month or €0.00004 per GB per hour.

There are two ways to backup your instances on Scaleway:

  • You can create a backup from the console simply by clicking on the Backup button.
  • You can make a backup through the API using the backup action.

After that, there are three steps to create a new server from a backup:

  1. Create a new server
  2. Choose your backup as image
  3. Launch your server
